Abstract

This paper shows the evolution of organizations, their elements, characteristics, and the factors that determine their complexity. It analyzes the impact that scientific knowledge and technological development have had on organizations over time and proposes an initial classification of them, based on the functions they perform and the technology they use. It was found that scientific development, discoveries, and the application of new technologies are determining factors of change, differentiation, and evolution in organizations and societies and, at the same time, generate new administrative forms applicable to specific situations, depending on the type of organization in question.
