Alternatives in administrative research: methods and techniques

Abstract

A long-standing issue, roaming through Higher Education Institutions, is the question of methods and techniques. At one point in our academic lives, we have all spent long hours discussing which and how many hours they require. We can assure you that many of these discussions have revolved around the elective method or techniques for research in administration. At the same time, their application has been neglected in an attempt to "impose" a method as the only one capable of generating science and knowledge. This has led to future researchers being framed and confined within parameters that do not allow criticism, not even of the method they have learned, much less openness to others. To overcome this position, those who will teach research must understand and evaluate the range of existing methods, regardless of the prevailing ideology. It will then be up to the creative mind to select from one of these, or from a combination of several, the method best suited to the object or type of research.
