Abstract
Each of us, participating in international debates, has a certain background: we come from a particular school of economic thought and are based on a certain type of socioeconomic experience. My own background is primarily shaped by the current development experience of the socialist countries of Eastern Europe and their inherent theoretical premises. This can be clearly seen throughout the presentation, even though its subject matter is not limited solely to the aforementioned socialist pattern of development. I believe that certain more general observations and propositions can be formulated based on the development approach and experiences of the socialist countries. In presenting them, I maintain the "open" position mentioned above.
