Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present a critical discussion of some of the prevailing ideas about work motivation and to examine the extent to which participatory management is feasible and relevant to Mexico's economic development. The topic of motivation has attracted the attention of writers from many disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, economics, administrative theory, engineering, and others. This paper will briefly mention the contributions of economists and workforce planners. Major emphasis will be placed on ideas emerging from psychology and administrative theory.
