Main Article Content

Burns and Stalker conducted an analysis of a number of companies in England and concluded that whether a "mechanistic" or "organic" management system was appropriate or not depended on the nature of the organization's environment. They concluded by saying: "The basis of managerial wisdom is the acceptance that there is no single optimal type of management system."
